Els for Autism-Canada is a Canadian-based organization committed
to helping people diagnosed on the autism spectrum live healthy, productive
lives. The organization was created by pro-golfer Ernie Els – a member of
the World Golf Hall of Fame. Ernie and his wife Liezl have been active in
organizations providing assistance to people diagnosed on the autism spectrum
since 2007 – shortly after their son, Ben, was diagnosed. They have lent
their support to organizations in the United States, South Africa and the United
Kingdom to provide assistance for schools, therapy programs and to increase
awareness of autism spectrum disorders.
Establishment of the Canadian organization is a continuation of
those efforts. It focuses on the needs of Canadians diagnosed on the autism
spectrum, and their families. All the money the organization raises that
supports program activities will be used to assist Canadian organizations and
programs. Program support will provide services in the province or
territory in which the funds were raised.
Autism is a challenge for those affected by it, their families
and the communities in which these Canadians live. Together we can
increase awareness, provide resources and work toward providing environments in
which people with autism spectrum disorders can thrive.
